About Us

Mission
The Ashoka Law Society is committed to creating an intellectually vibrant environment that fosters a deeper understanding of the law and its intersections with various social, political, and economic dimensions. Our mission is to engage students—both within and outside the discipline of law—through thoughtful dialogue, academic exploration, and collaborative initiatives. We aim to provide a platform for rigorous legal scholarship, stimulate critical thinking, and contribute to the broader discourse on contemporary legal issues. Through initiatives like panel discussions, speaker series, publications, and research projects, we strive to make the study of law accessible, relevant, and impactful for the Ashoka community and beyond.
Vision
Our vision is to shape an informed and proactive community of future legal professionals, scholars, and citizens who are equipped to critically engage with the world’s most pressing legal and societal challenges. By fostering an inclusive culture of interdisciplinary collaboration, we seek to bridge the gap between legal knowledge and its application in real-world contexts. ALS aspires to be a beacon of academic excellence, inspiring students to explore diverse legal fields, contribute innovative ideas, and become responsible agents of change in the global legal landscape.
Publications

The Publications Team of the Ashoka Law Society is dedicated to fostering academic discourse and advancing legal scholarship through our written work. Our team is dedicated to producing insightful, thought-provoking articles that engage with contemporary legal issues, fostering a deeper understanding of how law interacts with various social dimensions. We oversee a variety of content streams, including regular articles for the Ashoka Law Society website and our flagship publication, the Ashoka Legal Review. The Review serves as a platform for rigorous legal scholarship, featuring contributions from students, faculty, and experts in the field. Our goal is to provide a forum for critical analysis, innovative legal ideas, and emerging trends that challenge conventional thought and push the boundaries of legal discourse.

The Legal Research Division is a hub for taking up projects that directly deal with focused primary source documents, including but not limited to case judgements, written submissions etc. All members are expected to develop skills relevant to how to read primary sources and develop precision writing techniques. The vertical’s core function is around curating Case Briefs encompassing crucial international judgments executed by the ICJ since its establishment in 1945, including but not limited to International Criminal Law, International Environmental Law and Territoriality and Jurisdiction in International Law. The department also takes up annual vertical-wide projects that maps certain socio-legal developments to date and give an understanding of its current state.

Academic Engagement

The Academic Engagements vertical is dedicated to fostering a robust intellectual environment around the study and practice of law. Our primary objective is to enhance the engagement of law as a discipline among the general student body, encouraging both legal and non-legal students to partake in thought-provoking discussions and events that shape contemporary legal discourse. We curate panel discussions with experts across legal fields to bring the latest debates to the Ashoka community. By partnering with other student-led clubs and societies, we foster interdisciplinary dialogue and create a more holistic understanding of how law intersects with various aspects of society.
